The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color differences that can, exist between the Trybyte Bioform shade guides and the customized shade guides made in the laboratory with the identical shade designation using colorimeter (TC-6FX, Tokyo Idenshoku Co., Ltd., Japan)
The six shade guides selected for examination were the Trubyte Bioform shade guides (#59; #62, #65, #66, #67, #77) and the corresponding customized shade guides were made out of Ceramco porcelain powders with the backing of the nonprecious Vera Bond metal plate with the thickness of 0.2mm. The color of the Trubyte Bioform shade guides ano the customized shade guides was expressed in terms of CIE L*a*b* color coordinates by means of a colorimeter. Color differences (A E*ab)for each paired comparison within each shade group were calculated from the color data.
The results were as follows:
I. The means of L* (lightness index), a* (red chromaticness index), b* (yellow chromaticness index) of the Trubyte Bioform shade guides (#59, #62, #65. #66, #67, #77) were measured (Table 1).
2 The means of L*(lightness index), a*(red chromaticness index), b*(yellow chrmaticness index) of customized shade guides (#59, #62, #65, #66, ##67, #77) were measured (Table 2).
3. There was not statistically significant difference only at L*a*b* color coordinates between the Trubyte bioform shade guide (#66) and the corresponding customized shade guide, but generally there was statistically significant difference except #66 shade guide (Table 3).
4. The color difference (A E*ab) between the Trubyte Bioform shades guide and the corresponding customized guides increased in the order of #66 (1.59), #65 (4.18), #67 (5.58);
#62 (5.85), #77 (6.62), #59 (8.80) (Table 4).
